Sites of Thyroid Tissue	

Ectopic thyroid tissue may be found anywhere along the line of the obliterated thyroglossal duct. Remnants of the duct may persist as isolated nests of functioning thyroid tissue: for example, as a lingual thyroid; as a pyramidal lobe adjacent to the normal gland; or as nonfunctioning cysts.
